I meant to post this sooner, but got busy. When this was first posted online, I ignored it as I didn't want to repeat the cancellation circus that happened last year. However, given how it's starting to be picked up by the major news orgs, I would view it as a warning only. Don't press the panic button yet. All the final words on show renewals are in May. The link also has info on CI, for those interested.

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- "Law & Order" may stumble in its quest to replace "Gunsmoke" as the longest-running primetime drama in television history.

The NBC crime show, currently languishing in the ratings after being banished to Fridays in its 17th season, is one of several long-running series whose futures are uncertain.

NBC has begun talks with the show's producers for another season, and sources said the network is seeking a reduction in the license fee it pays for each episode. "Law & Order" is produced by NBC corporate sibling NBC Universal TV Studio and the show's creator, Dick Wolf.

"Law & Order" is one of the best-known brands in television, yielding two spinoffs, and playing strongly in reruns. Wolf has often said he wants to surpass the record of 20 seasons held by "Gunsmoke," but the ratings are not helping.

So far this season, "Law & Order" is averaging 9.3 million viewers, down from 11.6 million a year ago, when it aired in its traditional Wednesday berth, according to Nielsen Media Research. Its spinoffs, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," are averaging 12.9 million and 9.7 million, respectively, both also down markedly from last year. By contrast, top-rated dramas "CSI" and "Grey's Anatomy" pull in about 20 million viewers each.

This feels odd to ask, but where did the hamster mood theme come from? It's bizarrely cute, so it makes me want to ask. Thanks.

Since someone else recently posted for Alex Borgia screencaps, I thought I'd go for it. I'm looking for any decent sized/quality Jack/Abbie screencaps (together in shot, yep). In addition, looking for official Season 10 and 11 Promo Stills. I'm not holding my breath on those since they're a rarity online.

Thank you.

Favorite L&O:
Original. Yep.

Favorite Character:
Jack McCoy. Although, Abbie Carmichael and Mike Logan are gaining.

Favorite Episode: (if you have one)
Punk.

Favorite Cast of the original L&O:
Season 10 cast. Magic was in the air.

Now, a proper introduction. I'm dark_weezing, or better known in fanfiction circles as Dark Charaxes. I discovered this comm by looking at the "angie harmon" interest and this one was the most in tune with what I was looking for, I figured why not. I'm not going to gush about the original series or the fine actors involved, because I'm here already.

I've been writing fanfiction for the main series since Nov 05 and enjoying every minute of it. While I write primarily Jack/Abbie fiction (both ship and friendship), I've been working on the other characters as well (I did a CI Mike piece and a Ben Stone/Paul Robinette friendship piece) and everyone will be covered in due time. I've written unique stories because of the series, and I'm not about to stop now. In addition to gaining ground with the fics, I also co-own a Jack/Abbie LJ community, so I'm not a stranger (I'll spare the promotion, heh). In fact, you got one of my members (hi, thefanof).

I'm current on all three, but I do love the Mike CI's and I'm okay with the main series's current direction. For me, it hasn't been the same since Angie Harmon and writer Rene Balcer's departures, but we don't need to hear me whine. Heh. As with the current beat, I have been surprised with the fan-service lately: Goren's brother, Jack's daughter, AND his second wife. Retcons are in the air, yes.

Beyond that, I look forward to interacting and being a member here. I hope you'll enjoy or at least be amused by my takes on the series. Don't worry; I can talk things beyond shop as well.

~I hate Milena Govich's character so much.  Why did they have to bring a HOT woman with a PAST on? And take all the spotlight away from Jesse Martin? I loved when VanBuren put her in her place.  I miss Fontana.
~But I love Rubirosa! They just broght her on like she'd been there the whole time! It took me a second in at the arragnment to realize it wasn't Borgia!  I look forward to seeing more of her.

And the bomb about Jack's daughter....oh man. I knew they were going to do something like this....

Anywho, this case was def parallel to some Spears/Federline drama.
They needed an episode like this to break open the 17th season.

Welcome!

With the 17th season of Law & Order,  the the 8th season of Law & Order: SVU, and the 6th season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent arriving shortly I thought it would be appropriate to make this community.  I am a sophomore at NYU with a little too much time on my hands (not really, but I can work and watch L&O at the same time.) I am obsessed with Law & Order.  I've been a loyal follower of all of the shows (including the late.-lamented Trial By Jury) since I understood what "prosecute" meant.

Law & Order (original) is unfortunately in for some major changes this season.  The series was barely renewed after last season, which is very disappointing to me-- as much as I don't want to admit it--this may be the last season.  Dick Wolf and co. are attempting to give the show a make over, which I am terribly afraid of.  The younger generation wants so see more shows like CSI--with high tech gore and rampant sexuality.  Wolf's attempt to give into that will turn off the old followers and destroy the show.  I am not pleased with the addition of one of the two new cast members.  The replacement of Annie Parisse (ADA Alexandra Borgia, who was brutally murdered in the season finale) was inevitable.  She will be replaced by another hot woman, Alana De La Garza (playing ADA Consuela "Connie" Rubirosa) from CBS's CSI:Miami.  But I am very disappointed by the loss of Denis Farina--I don't know how they plan to bump him off (I hope he doesn't get killed).  While no one can replace Jerry Orbach, I liked Det. Joe Fontana and I think he worked well with Det. Ed Green.  The point is to have an older more senior detective, paired up with a younger junior detective.  Jesse L. Martin is definitely not old enough (although he was promoted) to have the sexy Milena Govich, (from Dick Wolf's failed Conviction & my other favorite show Rescue Me) playing Det. Nina Cassady as a partner.  This pairing will be the downfall, because both of these characters are young and they both have lives and the last thing I want to see on my Law & Order is these character's personal lives getting too involved in their work.  However, I will try to remain optimistic and as long as my rocks (Sam Waterston & S. Epatha Merkerson) do not leave, I will be happy.

Special Victims Unit is my guilty pleasure.  I am so attached to all those characters.  In case you didn't know,  while Mariska Hargitay spends time (about 6 episodes worth) with her new baby girl (Det. Olivia Benson goes undercover), she will temporarily be replaced by the attractive Connie Nielson.

Criminal Intent was hated last year.  Contrary to the masses I love Vincent D'Onofrio. I love Det. Robert Goren's style, his in-your-face-ness, his twitches.  And I was soooo happy when Chris Noth came on the show, reappearing as the hot-tempered Det. Mike Logan. (although he looks sooo old).  I didn't know that Annabella Sciorra was leaving until I was reading an article about the show--she will be replaced by another hot veteran of the failed Conviction, Julianne Nicholson (playing Det. Megan Wheeler). The loss of Jamey Sheridan was surprising but didn't kill me cause Capt. James Deakins never had a huge role, until right before he left.  He is being replaced by Eric Bogosian, playing Capt. Daniel Ross.  Finally Courtney B. Vance--who gave no reason for his departure will be replaced by Theresa Randle, playing ADA Patricia Kent.  With all these changes, I have no idea how this show is going to swing,

So the point of this community is to discuss the episodes after they air on NBC:

Law & Order premiers FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 22 at 10PM (note the change from Wednesday--no more competing with LOST)
Law & Order: SVU premiers TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 19 at 10PM.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent premiers TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 19 at 9PM (note the change from Sunday--it's on right before SVU now.)

If you join- give a little info about yourself.
